VAST – Our Partnership with the Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture

In light of recent events, we are delighted to announce that we will be partnering up with VAST (Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture) to work on a project for their upcoming fundraising gala on October 12. We think that it’s important in times like these to make an effort to do what you can to help those in need. VAST works tirelessly to help newcomers of all backgrounds adjust to life in Canada and we’re extremely excited to have this opportunity to help promote their fundraiser and continue to support Vancouver’s growing community.

Who is VAST?

VAST is BC’s largest centre for refugee mental health. Comprised of a diverse and passionate group of volunteers, this organization is dedicated to supporting the mental health of refugees who arrive in BC with psychological trauma linked to torture, political violence, and other forms of persecution on the basis of race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Refugees arriving in Canada need a considerable amount of settlement assistance while claiming refugee protection. In addition to one-on-one and group counselling, VAST provides documentation for evidence of psychological trauma, referrals to health, housing, and settlement services, and training and professional development workshops on refugee mental health for health and social service providers. All of their services are offered in over a dozen languages to accommodate those who have not had the opportunity to learn English.
